Cemetery Size & Materials Guide
Finding the right memorial for someone you love
Choosing a memorial is a meaningful decision, and we want it to feel simple. Instead of overwhelming you with dozens of options, we offer a small, carefully chosen collection of granite markers that you can personalize online, have shipped to you, and set yourself. Each of our three flat-marker sizes can honor a loved one in a cemetery, a cherished pet, or a quiet corner of the garden.
Which size is right for you?
Sizes are listed as length × width × thickness, in inches.
- 16" × 8" × 4" (about 60 lbs). Our most compact marker and the easiest to lift and place. A good choice when you want something simple and understated.
- 20" × 10" × 4" (about 95 lbs). A little more room for names, dates, and a few heartfelt words, while still smaller than our traditional size.
- 24" × 12" × 4" (about 135 lbs). Our classic cemetery marker for a loved one, with the most space for your design.
Every stone is one of a kind
Granite is shaped by nature, so no two pieces are exactly alike. You’ll see natural differences in color, grain, and veining from stone to stone. That variation is part of what makes each memorial truly its own.
Before you order: If your memorial is going in a cemetery, check with them first to confirm the size, thickness, granite type, color, and setting requirements they allow. The Cemetery Regulations Guide below walks you through exactly what to ask.

Cemetery Regulations Guide
A quick call now saves headaches later
Every cemetery sets its own rules, and they can differ quite a bit, even between cemeteries in the same town. Because we can’t confirm those rules on your behalf, a short conversation with the cemetery office before you order is the best way to make sure your memorial arrives ready to be welcomed, with no surprises.
Questions to ask your cemetery
- What size is allowed? Ask about the permitted length, width, and thickness.
- Which granite is allowed? Some cemeteries limit the type or color of stone.
- Is this style of memorial permitted? Let them know you’re considering a flat granite marker.
- Can our family install it ourselves? Some cemeteries allow it; others require their own crew.
- Is a foundation required? Ask whether there’s a specific foundation or setting method you’ll need to follow.
- Are there any fees? This can include placement, foundation, inspection, or other charges.
Helpful tip: Write down the answers along with the name of the person you spoke with and the date. It’s handy to have if any questions come up later.

Care & Cleaning Guide
Keeping your memorial beautiful for years to come
Here’s the good news: granite is one of the most durable materials there is, and it needs very little care. An occasional gentle cleaning is all it takes to keep your memorial looking its best.
What we recommend
For moss, lichen, mildew, and everyday dirt, we recommend D/2 Biological Solution. It’s a gentle cleaner made for stone, and it works without harming the surface.
A few simple tips
- Follow the label. The directions on the D/2 bottle will walk you through it step by step.
- Go soft. Use a soft-bristle brush or sponge to protect the polished finish.
- Skip anything harsh. Wire brushes, scouring pads, pressure washers, and strong chemicals like bleach can scratch the polish or wear down the engraving.
- Where to find it. D/2 isn’t included with your memorial, but it’s easy to order from many online retailers.
